This is a facility for five autistic kids ranging from 15 to 25. We took what could be an institutional environment, injected light and color, and made a real home for these wonderful kids. One of the greatest compliments I ever had as an architect came on this project. One of the kids had been living in the basement of the previous facility, but once he moved to the new facility his attitude improved greatly and disciplinary issues became less frequent. It is rare indeed to actually change lives through architecture…how about that!
